Why Build Green?

Did you know that In the United States, buildings account for:
  • 39 percent of total energy use
  • 12 percent of the total water consumption
  • 68 percent of total electricity consumption
  • 38 percent of the carbon dioxide emissions
Building Green is Building Better. Green buildings are more energy efficient, use less water, have a lesser impact on the environment and are healthier places to live and work than typical buildings.

The James River Green Building Council, a Chapter of the US Green Building Council, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to create a positive impact on the regions built environment by accelerating the adoption of green building practices, technologies, policies and standards in the Central Virginia region.

We are committed to the vision that Buildings and Communities should be sustainable, energy efficient, healthy places to live and work.Since 2005, JRGBC and our members have served as resource to the community and promoted green building by:
  • actively engaging state lawmakers for the adoption of green building practices
  • providing educational events and LEED training to green building professionals
  • holding social events for green minded professionals to network and have fun
