Resources
Whether they are residential or commercial, industrial or infrastructure, buildings are incredibly important to the American economy. The construction market accounts for 13.4% of the $13.2 trillion U.S. GDP (Source: Department of Commerce (2008). Annual Value of Construction Put in Place.). How buildings are constructed can have a profound and long-lasting impact on the natural environment, economy, and people’s productivity and physical well-being.
The mission of the James River Green Building Council is to promote cost effective design, construction and operation of buildings that are healthy places to live and work, environmentally responsible, and profitable. This can be accomplished by providing JRGBC members with design practices and technologies, green building and design policy advocacy, information and education. Our goal is also to support Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) as the standard for buildings in the region.
Green buildings do more to protect natural ecosystems, improve air and water quality, reduce solid waste, and conserve electricity, water and other natural resources. Making smart everyday choices about the built environment can have large impacts on the regional and national level.
